We love kids at Towning Dental! The American Dental Association recommends that all children see a dentist as soon as their baby teeth start erupting or at the very latest by age 1 year old. Starting children at the dentist early is important for many reasons. We are able to assess their home care and review things that should NOT be done, such as putting your baby to bed with a bottle with anything other than water in it. Also, it is important to get kids to the dentist early in life to help them become familiar with the strange sounds, sights, and smells of a dental office. Patients who saw a dentist regularly during their childhood are usually more comfortable and relaxed as adult patients.
Parents are welcome to stay in the room with their child during their cleanings and exams. We find this is also a good opportunity to review with parents how they should be taking care of their child’s teeth. Most children are not able to properly brush and floss their teeth until they are able to tie their shoes. Brushing and flossing requires a certain degree of manual dexterity, and until children have developed their motor skills, it is crucial that parents monitor and help with daily brushing and flossing.
